L’Homme dans la pierre Ma toute première sculpture en pierre était une tête d’homme. Je voulais suivre les cours d’un sculpteur de Montpellier ; il m’a apporté une pierre de construction rectangulaire faite de coquillages fossiles et m’a donné deux heures pour en tirer quelque chose avant de décider s’il me prendrait comme élève.

J’étais perdue devant ce bloc, sans la moindre inspiration. Puis j’ai vu un trou au sommet de la pierre. En regardant dedans, j’ai vu un œil levé vers moi ! Il semblait y avoir quelqu’un là-dedans… alors j’ai dégagé cet homme. Il ressemblait à Neptune.

À son retour, le maître tailleur a été stupéfait et m’a demandé comment j’avais fait. Je lui ai expliqué que je devais libérer cet homme ; il m’a alors raconté l’histoire de Michel-Ange, qui voyait un ange attendant d’être libéré de la pierre. Il y a vu un signe et a accepté de m’enseigner.
